Norm Cockerell


Norman Cockerell is an internationally experienced senior executive with a proven record of leading business development, operational and cultural transformations in the Financial Services, Insurance and Workers Compensations areas. Norman is currently Deputy Chair, Heathcote Health, Deputy Chair of the Governance and Risk committee and a member of the Steering committee for the Heathcote Dementia Village feasibility study. He is also a Non-Executive Director for Community Options Australia and Amicus Community Services.

During his executive career as General Manager of one of the agents of WorkSafe Victoria, Norm lead the end-to-end transformation of the Workers compensations claims management business that culminated in successfully being granted another 5-year contract. This role had full P&L responsibility with premium of $500M and 330 staff. As an agent of WorkSafe Victoria Norm has managed the high prudential and governance standards required when with working with governments. Role required the delicate balancing of meeting the agenda of the government of the day with the commercial realities of delivering a bottom line.

Norman commenced his career with the Ford Motor Company then extensive experience in Asia and Australia in Banking. He was an Executive General Manager with Medibank Private, Australia’s largest private health insurer. He had responsibility for strategy development and operational management of B2B relationships and was responsible for the Medibank Health Solutions brand and marketing activities covering health programs, injury treatment and rehabilitation services, and workplace health and safety programs. Between 2004 and 2005 Norm was the Head of Personal Financial Services in Thailand for HSBC one of the world’s largest Banks. This full-service retail banking operation was under-performing and Norman redefined the customer proposition, sales business model, operational processes and automation while concurrently increased new customer acquisition customer satisfaction.

Norman has a passion for improving the safety of workplaces and ensuring business managers truly understand the risks they have and how to mitigate them. In the unfortunate situation where employees are injured he is focused on working with line managers to have injured workers return to work in the shortest possible timeframe.

Norman has a Bachelor of Business and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD). He has a passion for Baseball and Golf and is a one eyed supporter of the Geelong Cats.
